DiY Website vs. Custom Web Design

I have been asked a many times, "can I build my own website?". The answer is, "you can". Many website builders and content management systems offer relatively simple ways to build a website.

The real question is, "will it make sense to devote the time and resources to build a great looking, user friendly, and fully functional website?" By doing it yourself, one might expect to save time and money however, this is not always the case. For the novice DiY website developer, getting started is simple, but creating a certain appearance, or developing specific functionality, is often a difficult challenge.

So, let's take a look at some of the pro's and con's of DiY vs. Custom Web Design...

Evaluate the pro's and con's before making a decision about web design...

The bottom line is, each business is unique. A start-up business will need to source and procure funds for custom web design, yet not with a free website builder. An established business may seek to increase profits by investing in a custom website, or may seek to minimize expense by building a website for free.

Be careful to under estimate the value of custom web design. A successful business will recognize a professional website and custom management plan, as a long-term strategy, and a high return investment. If you absolutely have to start free, be sure to ear mark funds for a line item in your budget. Plan for the future, and harness the power of a completely custom website as soon as possible!
